In the mid-nineteenth Jenny Lind was considered one of the greatest bel canto singers of all time. A student of Manuel García and nicknamed the "Swedish Nightingale", among her admirers were Meyerbeer, Berlioz, Mendelssohn and Schumann. Verdi composed the part of Amalia in "Masnadieri" for her, performed for the first time in London in 1847. She made legendary tours, in particular in the United States in 1849 thanks to the impresario Phineas Taylor Barnum, owner of the famous circus. She had a very eventful love life: she was loved by Andersen and Chopin, and in 1852 she married the German composer Otto Goldschmidt.
The second edition of Solo Belcanto opens with the exceptional presence of Jessica Pratt, one of the most acclaimed sopranos of our time, who together with Gianni Fabbrini will pay tribute to Jenny Lind as did her great Australian compatriot Joan Sutherland, proposing some of the arias considered the major flagships of the Swedish Nightingale.
This concert is a must for all those who love the most virtuoso and spectacular bel canto. To hear the voice of Jessica Pratt in the acoustics of the small Teatro della Grancia is truly an amazing experience.
